One Spirit Media: Carla Escamilla's Photography, A Human is a Creative Social Artist

Carla Escamilla is young photographer currently living in Palmdale, CA. Her medium is her life, and it extends beyond the lens she uses to see it. Early in the summer of 2011 she held a gallery to get some attention for her work.

She gathered together some friends, some friends of friends, and some people who just happened to be close enough to know. Then she stuck them all in her backyard with her photos hanging on the walls or suspended from the patio overhang, art lying around, and some live bands to pull everyone together. (Including OSM Music Group Them Poets)

This is what exposure is for an independent photographer who can't leap directly into the mass media race. Context isn't just about what's in the image, it's about who is seeing it. That's a concept Carla made real of those who attended. Art has always been about the desire to unite souls and bring people closer together. While nudging in the direction of your own personal experience. It is inherently social.
